In the field of 3D printing there is always something new. Todays lesson is about converting a 2D photo into a 3D print. In other words: if – for instance – you have a sweet old family picture, you can now add depth to the photo and create a unique 3D print out of it.

We all know the concept of a 3D movie; it uses different angles to create 3D vision. However, photos are always made from single shots. If you think about this, then it only makes it more intriguing you can now convert those pictures into 3D versions. There are programs that can predict shapes, textures and colors of invisible areas of a photo.
There’s new software from 3Defy and it can very accurately estimate what the color of the sky behind a person on a picture must be and what the exacts shape of a persons head must be. 3Defy makes it possible to add depth to a 2D photo and to convert the photo into a 3D print.
