In the field of 3D printing there is always something new. Todays lesson is about converting a 2D photo into a 3D print. In other words: if – for instance – you have a sweet old family picture, you can now add depth to the photo and create a unique 3D print out of it.

There are programs that can predict shapes, textures and colors of invisible areas of a photo.
There’s new software from 3Defy and it can very accurately estimate what the color of the sky behind a person on a picture must be and what the exacts shape of a persons head must be. 3Defy makes it possible to add depth to a 2D photo and to convert the photo into a 3D print.
