Printing out chocolate on a 3D printer might sound a little futuristic to some, but the reality is that it’s already happening with companies such as Pig Chocolates. Another successful start-up is Choc Edge, that has produced The Choc Creator. Can you imagine this company being so successful that its 3D chocolate printers have been exported as far as Brazil?
Dr Liang Hao from the University of Exeter in the UK, started the company in 2011, and it started selling the machines from the start of 2013. Since the technology was featured on well-known TV show The Gadget Man, sales have increased. Host Stephen Fry threw a dinner party for friends using the 3D chocolate printer as well as other innovative devices to prepare a great meal. The company has been selling its printers to people in Colombia, the USA, Singapore, China, France, Germany as well as Brazil.
The idea behind Choc Edge was explained by Christina Zheng : “Our vision is to free people’s imagination by providing them with a new way to design and create unique chocolates. We’ve had enquiries from all over the world, and we are really motivated by people’s passion towards innovative chocolate creation.”
Developments like this are definitely striking, because people use the technique of 3D printing in a creative way. Also it enables other companies to speed up their production. For instance, we’ve been told that a company from Czech Republic now uses the machine in order to produce its own gifts and marketing materials for events.
We will keep you posted about original 3D printers. Do you want to see how this one works, then check out this video:
